I think it is safe to say that Spring has come early and is here to stay.
The temps were mild last night, and we left all the windows open in our home. It was so nice having fresh air all night and hearing the birds this morning was heavenly..
But there is still some chilly weather ahead, which means wearing a few layers for the days and evenings that temperature changes are extreme. However, now that the spring flowers are blooming, and the grass is getting greener it might be hard for us to put back on the fleece pull-overs or flannel button up shirts (Confession, I buy my husband flannel shirts so I can wear them at home during the day. Admit it, you have a secret crush on flannel too).
A shawl or a shawlette is the perfect answer for springtime weather. A new shawl is a practical way to add to your wardrobe. And a hand knit shawl gives you something that is unique only to you! And when you knit a shawl, it breaks you out of the rut of knitting winter scarves.
The shawl “Bloom” by Trish Bloom is an easy quick knit for spring time knitting. It is knit with a little bit heavier yarn, and larger needles, so the project progresses quickly. The main body is created using only the knit stitch with short row shaping. The “lacy” effect is created by knitting the stitches on large needles, making the loops larger. This would be a great beginner-novice “challenge yourself” project, or a good TV watching project for intermediate-advanced knitters.
The yarn suggested is “Blossom” by Noro Yarns, but has been discontinued. Any yarn that is an Aran or Bulky weight would be an acceptable substitute.
I think it would be lovely in Lion Brand “Amazing”, Jo-Ann Sensations Rainbow Boucle, Lion Brand “Wool Ease”, or Caron “Simply Soft Chunky”, or Simply Soft Paints. I love variegated or self patterning yarn, so I will probably pick a rainbow-colored yarn. But colors such as soft pink, lavender, or turquios (the color of the season) would be very pretty.

This would make a spectacular shawlette knit with a Designer Yarn and smaller needles. Currently LoopsKnitting in Tulsa OK has ArtYarns Cashmere Glitter on sale for a great price! ArtYarns Cashmere Glitter is a wonderful yarn to knit with, and an economical choice for those wanting to knit with a designer yarn! Knit in this yarn on size 9, 10, or 11 needles will create an attention grabbing shawlette that drapes beautifully..
